On this very day, 15 years ago, one of the world's most beautiful creatures was ripped away. That creature's name was Diana, Princess of Wales.
I'll never forget the night she passed away. I was seven years old and fast asleep when it was announced. My sweet Daddy, knowing how much I loved her, woke me up to tell me the news. Devastation took over my young heart very quickly. I had spent weeks and weeks of my short, little life being absolutely obsessed with the princess and her royal family. I had a huge book about her life and a porcelain doll made to look like Prince William's baby picture. My mom had him made just for me. I could not believe this beautiful woman, who I idolized was actually gone.
The princess, born Diana Spencer, was very shy, yet so very charming. She married Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, on July 29, 1981. Diana was known for her charity work with many AIDS and land mine victims, which the royal family did not approve of. After having 2 sons, William and Harry, the Princess' marriage took a tumultuous turn. Charles admitted to having an affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, which led to Diana's struggle with Bulimia and depression. The divorce was final in August 1996, and one year later, Diana was dead after a car crash in Paris.
Although the beautiful Princess Diana has been gone from our world for 15 years now, her memory and legacy are frozen in time. She was such a lovely lady that was so full of class. She just radiated love and concern for others, and her style and love of fashion made her an icon. Looking back, though, her life and death seem so tragic to me now. It breaks my heart that such a seemingly incredible woman suffered so much in her life, and her death was so untimely and heartbreaking.
Such a beautiful soul was taken far too soon, but I will remember her forever. She will always be someone that I look up to, and I strive to love others in the way she did. So, here's to you, Diana, Princess of Wales. May your memory live on.
